Incoming Drink to the Face
There’s a thin line between noticing someone and making her wonder if she needs to call security. Not every man understands that their compliments can be creepy, and it only gets worse when they get defensive of a woman’s discomfort. You may have thought these 20 comments were flattering, but they’re actually the sort that can leave women smiling politely while quietly planning an escape route.
1. “You Have the Body For That”
Newsflash: any time you speak about a woman’s body, it’s bound to end poorly. A man may think he’s praising the dress, but this wording makes it clear that you were just studying her physique. Mentioning how a wrap dress or fitted knit hugs her figure turns ordinary praise into an assessment; saying the dress looks great is usually more than enough.
2. “I’d Sleep With You If You Lost Some Weight”
We don’t know what planet this came from, but it’s one of the worst things you could ever say. It reduces a woman’s body to whether she meets his personal threshold for attraction. Worse, comments like these assume she was waiting for that approval. Nothing about being told you’re almost desirable feels good.
3. “Your Skin Looks Too Good To Be Real”
Flawless foundation and careful skin care can boast an impressive complexion, but questioning whether someone’s face is “real” makes things uncomfortable. Chances are, she may start wondering whether he’s searching for Botox, fillers, or some other explanation. Complimenting glowing skin doesn’t mean launching an investigation into how she did it.
4. “I Can Tell You Take Good Care of Yourself”
We know that on paper, this sounds respectable, but the meaning changes when it comes from someone staring her up and down. The phrase only suggests that he’s evaluating everything about her, especially her weight. Women don’t need (or want) strangers conducting visual wellness checks.
5. “You Have Childbearing Hips”
Hey, guys—we’re not in the dark ages anymore, and this is the farthest thing from a compliment! Some men still say this as if they’re highlighting a woman’s figure, but it’s just invasive. Telling a woman her hips look good is one thing; evaluating them for childbirth is another.

6. “Your Hair Looks Better Like This”
A new bob, fresh highlights, or soft layers deserve some appreciation, and the word “better” quietly criticizes everything that came before. It’s especially awkward when a man barely knows the woman. Praise the new cut and call it a day.

7. “You Should Wear Heels More Often”
We all know that heels can skyrocket a woman’s height and posture, but turning admiration into instructions changes the mood. The reality is that it can feel especially creepy if he follows up by mentioning her legs. Footwear doesn’t need an unofficial male approval rating!
8. “I Bet You Were Hot When You Were Younger”
This may be intended as praise, but really stop and think about how terrible that sounds. It just shows that you think aging ruined her and that her best years are already behind her. If you want to tell a woman she looks good, there’s no reason to turn it into an archaeological dig through her younger self.
9. “You’ve Still Got It”
On the other hand, this is another one of those comments with awful insinuations. Few phrases can age someone faster than telling her she has “still” managed to remain attractive. The compliment works much better without suggesting her beauty was supposed to expire.
10. “You’ve Got Curves in All the Right Places”
This is something you hear in a song, not something you want a man to tell you face-to-face. Sure enough, some guy still say this as though they’re simply offering a generous compliment. In reality, it tells a woman that you’ve been assessing everything about her, and that’s a lot of unsolicited commentary packed into one sentence.

11. “I Bet You Get Hit on All the Time”
This one doesn’t actually compliment her at all. Instead, it invites her to discuss how much attention other men give her, which is way too personal territory for a casual conversation. A woman in a great outfit wasn’t hoping to provide statistics about strangers approaching her.

12. “You’re Way Too Attractive For That”
Well…beauty apparently comes with compulsory styling rules now. Count us confused! A pixie cut, shaved side, gray crop, or unconventional fringe might not match his personal preference, but calling her “too attractive” for it disguises criticism as admiration.
13. “You Look So Young”
Being told you look young is absolutely not a kind word. It’s creepy, it’s invasive, and every woman can read between the lines. It reaches horrifying territory if you actually specify an age, too.

14. “You Dress Younger Than Most Women Your Age”
Maybe she loves leather jackets. Maybe her style includes bright sneakers or quirky sweaters. Either way, comparing her wardrobe with some imaginary group of appropriately dressed women her age makes the praise feel backhanded. Clothes don’t need an age limit because someone reached 40.
15. “You Smell Delicious”
Complimenting someone’s perfume is normal, but describing the woman herself as “delicious”? You have to know that would end badly! It’s especially uncomfortable when the comment comes from a stranger who leans closer or makes it obvious he’s been noticing her scent.
16. “You’d Look Great With Longer Hair”
Guys love saying this to women who recently chopped their locks or always rock a shorter do. Whatever the case, it’s just signalling to her that you hate her current style! Some men deliver these comments as though they’ve spotted untapped potential that only needs their styling direction.
17. “You Look So Put Together”
Coming from a friend or partner, this can be lovely—but context matters. From a coworker or acquaintance, listing her usual shoe choices, hairstyles, and handbags, it reveals just how closely he’s been watching. Detailed fashion observation gets unsettling when the woman didn’t realize she had an audience.
18. “That Neckline Suits You”
We hate to break it to you, but this compliment becomes suspicious the moment his eyes stay considerably lower than hers. A square-neck blouse or V-neck dress may be flattering, yet very specific commentary about necklines can make a woman wonder what’s really getting attention.
19. “You’d Look Hotter Without That”
This is the sort of line some men still try to pass off as praise for a woman’s appearance—and it doesn’t work. Instead of complimenting her dress, jacket, or carefully chosen outfit, it turns the conversation toward imagining her without it. She didn’t get dressed that morning hoping a stranger would explain how much better she’d look undressed.

20. “I Got Lost in Your Eyes”
There’s a difference between telling someone she has beautiful eyes and announcing that you got lost in them. It’s just a cheesy line at this point! The extra theatrical wording doesn’t make prolonged staring feel any more flattering.
