Winter Chic: 20 Tips For Being Fashionable & Warm Throughout The Colder Months

What's In Your Winter Wardrobe?

Every winter, so many of us completely ditch style in the pursuit of warmth, all looking like puffy clones of each other in our bulky layers. However, it doesn't have to be this way—you can be cozy and look cute. Here are 20 tips to help you stay fashionable and warm throughout the colder months.

1. Layers

Layers are your friend in the winter, and learning how to do it strategically is a total game-changer. Start with a sweat-wicking base layer made out of Merino wool or a similar material, and place other pieces on top, but try not to add too much bulkiness.

2. Choose a Stylish Hat

A stylish hat can add a lot of pizzazz to your outfit. Instead of going for any old beanie that adds warmth but does nothing for style, go for something like a beret or newsboy cap.

3. Opt For Elegant Gloves

Instead of wearing silly-looking, bulky mittens, choose elegant leather or faux leather gloves. Unless you're going to explore the Arctic, they should be warm enough and look far more fashionable.

4. Choose Warm Fabrics

You don't need a lot of bulky layers if your clothes are made of warm, high-quality fabrics, like wool. Materials like this trap air to create a layer of insulation that holds in body heat.

5. Wear a Scarf

Scarves are a double-whammy when it comes to warmth and fashion. There are several ways to style them, and they come in any number of colors and patterns, adding intrigue to your outfit.

6. Get a Statement Coat

In winter, we so often default to looking like marshmallows in the same puffy coats every day. Invest in a few different styles and colors to avoid the winter monotony.

7. Wear Tights Under Dresses & Skirts

Many of us completely forget about all of our dresses and skirts in the winter because we are so preoccupied with being warm. However, if you just invest in some good tights, you can continue wearing them all season.

8. Wear Thermal Leggings Under Pants

You might think that all your cute ripped jeans are off limits in winter, but this is not the case if you just layer them with thermal leggings underneath. You also don't need to limit yourself to the thickest of pants in this case.

9. Buy Insulated Boots

Winter boots don't have to be ugly. There are plenty of cute styles that don't specifically look like winter boots but come with an extra layer of insulation, keeping your feet warm.

10. Play With Textures

Winter provides an opportunity to mix and match textures and materials, which you may not necessarily feel like doing in other seasons. Mix wool, cashmere, leather, and faux fur for a cozy, fashionable look.

11. Get Into Oversized Sweaters

Oversized sweaters are all the rage right now. Layer them over slim bottoms like skinny jeans or leggings so that you're not all bulk. Oversized or textured sweaters provide warmth and visual interest.

12. Opt For Long Coats

Choose longer coats for a stylish, slimming, streamlined silhouette. They're also warmer than short coats because they cover parts or all of your legs as well as your torso.

13. Play With Color

Winter is drab enough without your neutral-colored wardrobe. Don't be afraid to add some brightness and try out a splash of orange, yellow, or bright green in your outerwear.

14. Add Belts To Bulky Layers

You don't have to give up on your hourglass figure just because it's cold outside. All it takes is a belt at the waist on top of your bulky outer layer to show off your figure.

15. Wear Wool Socks

Investing in some cute wool socks will keep your feet cozy and warm, and save your toes from frostbite. In truly cold climates, these aren't a fashion choice, but a necessity.

16. Wear Necklaces On Top Of Sweaters

Just because you're wearing a turtle neck sweater doesn't mean you can't wear necklaces. Place your jewelry on the outside of your sweater to show it off.

17. Play With Faux Fur Accents

Real fur is no longer acceptable in most circles, but faux fur has come a long way and can add a natural, cozy element to your winter look. They're also designed to keep you warm.

18. Focus on Slim Fits

Slim-fitting layers will stop you from looking too much like the Michelin Man. Just because it's winter doesn't mean you have to forfeit your waistline.

19. Go For Cozy Knit Dresses

Dresses aren't just for the summer. Longer knit dresses and skirts are the perfect cold-weather wardrobe staple for completing your stylish winter vibe. They're great for NYE parties and Christmas events.

20. Try A Puffer Vest

Try layering with a puffer vest for a cool, flattering, and modern winter aesthetic. Puffer vests also add a surprising amount of warmth to your core without restricting arm movement, making them more practical than you might initially think.
