10 Timeless Looks That Always Look Good & 10 Outdated Ones We Cringe At

In And Out Of Fashion

We've seen fashion evolve through the decades and there's been many different style trends. While some looks are timeless and practical, other fashion styles are questionable. From a classic trench coat to saggy-bottom jeans, what would you wear and what makes you cringe?

1. White Shirt

A classic crisp white shirt will never go out of style. You can rock a white top casually with jeans or as formal wear under a suit jacket. White is our neutral shade that goes with everything and can be styled in numerous ways. A white shirt has been a staple in women’s and men’s closets for decades.

2. Trench Coat

A trench coat is an iconic look that's been in style forever. It's a trend we can all get behind. A trench is a basic item of clothing that comes in classic colors like black and beige but you can also find more eclectic patterns. A trench coat just goes well over top of any outfit.

3. Leather Jacket

A leather jacket is and always will be cool. With its nod to rock n' roll it adds an edgy aesthetic to your overall look. A leather jacket has become a staple for all genders and styles and it doesn't have to be real leather anymore to echo the look.

4. Black Dress

If you wear dresses, chances are you have at least one little black dress. A black dress peaked in the 1920s thanks to the flappers and has been flattering us all ever since. A black dress is an essential garment that can be worn on countless occasions. With your little black dress and a pair of pumps, you're ready for the club, but throw on some sneakers and you're ready to go anywhere.

5. Blazer

Blazers add that sophisticated "I'm going to take over the world" vibe. A blazer is a tailored jacket that suits everybody. They're a staple for an office wardrobe but they're also stylish outside of work. A bold blazer polishes off any outfit but when you pair one with a delicate blouse, the balance is perfection.

6. Jeans & A T-Shirt

Who doesn't love the look of jeans and a t-shirt? They go together like peanut butter and jelly. Almost everybody has a favorite pair of jeans and an over-worn tee in their closet. This timeless look is cool and casual for everyone of all ages.

7. Denim Jacket

The "Canadian Tuxedo" is a fashion trend from the Great White North. Why do they pair denim with denim so often that it became a term?

–– because denim is the best. You'll find denim jackets in all kinds of styles for ladies and gents alike. A jean jacket is another casual trend that will never get old.

8. Black Pants

Like dresses, black pants are timeless and come in many styles. A pair of black slacks is likely your go-to bottoms for work attire or for when you're dressing up. Black pants go well with any shirt and they can add a formal flair to your outfit, especially if you wear them with dress shoes or heels.

9. Ankle Boots

What's not to love?–– Ankle boots are a footwear staple that are cute and practical. Whether you adorn a heel or a flat style, ankle boots look stylish with dresses, skirts, and any style of pants. They're a comfy boot that looks great and feels great to wear too.

10. Sneakers

Lace up a pair of kicks any day. Sneakers are another footwear staple all genders of all ages adore. Treat your feat to comfy classics that look great with most outfits. It's super trendy nowadays to wear sneakers with dresses and skirts which pleases many women who want to ditch the heels sometimes.

Those looks will be trendy for life but unfortunately, that's not the case for all trends.

Where were the fashion police when these next garments committed these terrible fashion crimes?

1. Corsets

Traditional corsets are the worst fashion trend to ever exist for so many reasons. They promoted unhealthy beauty standards while causing actual damage to women's bodies. It took hours to get tied into a corset and often women would feel faint from not being able to breath properly.

2. Saggy Pants

You'd think if you couldn't walk properly because your waistline was almost hitting your ankles, you'd buy a belt. Saggy trousers were unfortunately a trend many "cool dudes" took on but they look far from cool. It made many mothers and teachers alike yell "pull your pants up"! and we always knew what underwear they had on.

3. Frosted Tips

Frosted tips were as big of a hit as the boy bands who started the trend. Bleaching the tips of your hair was a look that should stay put in the late 90s and never come back. Frosted tips was a hairstyle for the "pretty boys" but the look wasn't so pretty.

4. Shutter Shades

We understand that eyes are the "windows to your soul" but shutters are for real windows, not for your eyes. These impractical ridiculous-looking glasses became popular in courtesy of Kanye West but he can keep them.

Not only are they hard to look out of but they're hard for us to look at people wearing them.

5. T-Shirt Over Long-Sleeves

If you wanted to wear long-sleeves why are you throwing a short-sleeve on top? Wear a long-sleeve or a short-sleeve–– don't wear both. Same goes for a skirt over pants–– If you can't decide which one to wear, the answer isn't to wear both at the same time. Try going for pants one day and a skirt the next.

6. Sweaters Tied Around The Neck

Have you noticed that the characters in movies that tie their sweaters around their necks are the overly-confident, rich preppy guys? A cardigan on your shoulders just screams arrogance. If you're not a superhero, there's no need to wear your sweater like a cape.

7. Velour Tracksuit

A velour tracksuit was a tacky trend in the early 2000s. Many celebrities wore their luxurious lounge wear out in the real world and the girls loved it. We get that they're super comfy but velvet and rhinestones on your sweatpants is a bit cringy.

8. Very Low Low-Rise Jeans

There are other ways you can be sexy without revealing so much. These very low low-rise jeans trended in the early 2000s but there was no need for them to be so low. If you had a booty forget it–– those jeans weren't going to fit. Some of the waistlines were made so small that the zippers were comically short and barely zipped up.

9. Huge Shoulder Pads

Like the 80s hairstyle, people thought bigger was better but that's not always the case. Huge shoulder pads were stuffed into many tops and jackets that made you look angular and boxy. Unless you're a football player, you don't need that much padding on your shoulders.

10. Hobble Skirts

Hobble skirts were a terrible fashion mistake. Even their name implies how ridiculous they are–– you have to hobble around if wear one. They were skirts made from heavy material that cinched near the ankles, making it very difficult to move around. We're happy to say these constricting garments won't be coming back in style any time soon.
